Tisdag 29 april
12.00-13.30
Gaetano Badalamenti
SOMA
SOMA practice begins with a structured approach to attuning the body using various bodywork approaches, then transitions into improvisation through texture explorations, scores, partnering, and instant-composition. While highly physical, it remains focused on attuning to the body’s needs, fostering awareness and presence during movement.
BIO
Gaetano Badalamenti works in the fields of dance performance, creation, and movement coaching. He began his career with Galili Dance in the Netherlands and later danced with NND/Noord Nederlands Dans and Compagnia Zappalà Danza.
He has performed in choreographic works by renowned artists such as Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin, Alexander Ekman, Moritz Ostruschnjak, Tabea Martin, Tino Sehgal, & Stephan Herwig. His solo work The Fields of Wonder won the Artists’ Choice Award at the Gothenburg Fringe Festival in 2022 and was part of the ACASA project, supported by Fondazione Nazionale della Danza/ Scenario Pubblico (IT).
At the heart of his artistic practice is SOMA, a movement-approach blending modern and ancient bodywork techniques. SOMA attunes the body to its role as a vessel for life force, fostering self-awareness through movement exploration, improvisation, and partnering.
Alongside his dance career, Gaetano has studied physical therapy, movement practices, and holistic bodywork. He is currently guest-teaching at GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, Carte Blanche, Skånes Dans Teater, and Hessisches Staatstheater, amongst others.
