RIVA THE FAROESE DANCE COMPANY Rannvá G. Niclasen and Vár B. Árting are the artistic directors of RIVA the Faroese Dance Company which is the first and only contemporary dance company in the Faroe Islands established in 2021. Their artistic practice focuses on making Faroese produced work and facilitating projects rooted in a Faroese perspective relevant in the context of establishing a professional dance environment in the Faroe Islands. RIVA has developed a physical practice that explores ways of morphing floor and partnerwork. This is done through using principles from floorwork and applying it to working with other bodies while keeping a constant point of contact. Focusing on the flux between listening and following when working with a partner and organically switching roles.
You will get exercises to understand some practical mechanics rooted in counter balance, weight shifting, playing with the collective and individual center of gravity and maintaining a point of contact to find ease when working with another body.
We will finish class by tapping into some of RIVA’s repertoire to get a sense of the technique in practice.
