Theresa “Tr3sa” Gustavsson is a dance artist, choreographer, and producer with a strong commitment to community. Since starting her career in the dance scene in 2005, she has been an active participant both on and behind the stage, both nationally and internationally.

Her main focus has been within the streetdance styles; Hiphop, House, Locking & Popping, however her versatility stretches beyond these. She has a strong interest in cultural dances and she has spent a lot of time on research travels learning different street-, club- dances as well different African and afro diasporan dances.

With a deep foundation in various dance styles, particularly groove- and rhythm-based dances, her artistic expression is shaped by versatile influences. She loves diving into body mechanics, motor skills, and gaining a deeper understanding by breaking down movements and challenging the body’s control. Theresa has Studied in places like NYC and Åsa Folkhögskola and has traveled the world to learn from the right sources. You’ll find her as a choreographer and dancer on stage, participating in battles, and teaching in dance programs as well as beginner classes for all ages. Her teaching experience spans working with everyone from 5-year-olds to 80-year-olds, from beginners to professional dancers, from Malmö in the south to Piteå in the north. In addition, she has been teaching at Stockholm University of the Arts, Ballet Academy Sthlm, Danscentrum Syd, PRODA (NO), Dansehallerne (DK) as well as workshops internationally.

Currently active as the choreographer and producer of the performances “Open Doors” and “YEBO YES!”, she is also the co-founder of the organization AFIA and their South African dance and music festival “Afia Festival”. Body Mechanics within Groove and Rhythm by Tr3sa

“With a strong interest in body mechanics, motor skills and rhythms I like to break down movements and challenge my body control. With the help of different styles, exercises and concepts I deepen the understanding of “groove” – by deepening the understanding of the relation between body parts, “rhythm” – by exploring our ability to use concepts related to body mechanics to change and explore rhythm and understand body polyrhythmics. We will challenge our motor skills and body control to strive for a stronger movement freedom and understanding. Welcome!” – Theresa

My interest in dance has been strong for as long as I can remember, and groove and rhythm are what I have realized are a major source of inspiration and passion for me. At the age of 8, I was diagnosed with Rheumatism, and since then, I’ve spent most of my life searching for ways to care for, understand, and support my body in the best way possible.

About four years ago, I began combining my love for groove and rhythm with my fascination with body mechanics. This led to developing concepts, exercises, and ideas to understand the mechanics of the body specifically within groove and rhythm. These methods help me perform with a deep understanding of my body and take better care of it.

My dance background primarily lies in various street dance styles such as Hip-hop, House, Locking, and Popping. However, I also have a strong interest in other rhythm- and groove-based dances like Afro-Cuban, Salsa, Sabar, and Pantsula. Within this broad palette of dance styles, I’ve realized that rhythm and groove are what truly capture my interest and fascination.

Through my concepts and methods within “BMGR” (Body Mechanics within Groove and Rhythm), I aim to approach and explore groove and rhythm from a biomechanical perspective. This approach not only deepens the understanding of the body’s fundamental movement capabilities but also serves as a foundation for movement knowledge that can be applied before learning style-specific foundational steps.

In other words, this knowledge can be applied across various styles and greatly enhances the understanding of the body’s movement potential as a whole.
