Contemporary

Bio:

GILDA STILLBÄCK is a choreographer, dancer and actress working across the fields of performing arts and film. As a dancer, she has worked with, among others, the Norwegian Opera and Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Since 2006, she has created her own works for adults, young people and children, presented at venues including Malmö Opera and Moderna Dansteatern in Stockholm, and toured through networks such as Dansnät Sverige. Her artistic practice explores the body’s ability to express what cannot always be articulated in words, with a focus on relationships, identity and society. Through collaborations with artists from different fields, she develops works at the intersection of artistic disciplines. Her dance film The Source, co-directed with Sofia Norlin, has received several awards, including Best Film at the Multilíe Dance Film Festival in Norway. In 2026, she is participating in Swedstage with Ingeborg’s Manifesto, created in collaboration with Petra Revenue.

Class description:

IN CLASS I will share experiences and artistic explorations that have interested me in different ways and have permeated my work in the performing arts since I began creating my own pieces. We will begin by warming up both body and voice, as I see the dancing body as a whole, where movement and sound are closely interconnected. After exploring our own bodies, we will move on to partner work. Inspired by my encounter with Argentine tango more than 20 years ago, I have developed different forms of contact improvisation, focusing on leading with sensitivity and following actively. The workshop will then develop in dialogue with the participants and in response to what emerges in the room. Listening, sensing what resonates, and making active decisions based on what we perceive will become the central theme of the workshop. Together, we will explore how sensitivity and responsiveness can become an active practice, and how our individual impulses can influence the shared space.
