Open Call: Visiting Artist Programme 2026
For Two Dance Artists Based in Region Västra Götaland
Danscentrum Väst and 1024-regionalt produktionshus för dans, are pleased to announce an open call for two dance artists based in Region Västra Götaland, to participate in the Visiting Artist Programme 2026, an international mobility initiative
within Dance Festivals Network Europe.
Selected artists will take part in one of the following international contemporary dance festivals:
– 1 artist for Albania Dance Meeting – Albania, 19-22 nd of October 2026
(possible travel days the day before and after)
– 1 artist for December Dance – Belgium, 3-6 th of December 2026 (possible
travel days the day before and after)
This opportunity supports artistic development, international exchange, and professional networking for independent dance practitioners working in contemporary dance and choreography.
The Visiting Artist Programme is one of the projects within Dance Festivals Network Europe, a coalition of European dance festivals dedicated to advancing the role of contemporary dance in building a more sustainable, inclusive, and innovative future.
About the Two Festival Opportunities:
Although both festivals are part of the Visiting Artist Programme, they offer very different professional experiences:
Albania Dance Meeting – Albania
A smaller and more intimate festival encounter
Albania Dance Meeting offers a more intimate and close-knit professional environment, where encounters with artists, organisers, and presenters happen in a more personal and direct way.
This visit is ideal for an artist interested in:
– deeper conversations and closer professional exchange
– experiencing a smaller festival structure
– building relationships in a more focused and personal setting
– engaging with local artists and the regional dance context in a direct way
The focus is on proximity, dialogue, and meaningful artistic exchange within a smaller-scale festival environment.
December Dance – Belgium
A large-scale international festival experience
December Dance offers the opportunity to discover and navigate a major international dance festival with a broad programme and many international
presenters, artists, and organisations present.
This visit is ideal for an artist interested in:
– gaining an overview of a large festival structure
– understanding how larger international festivals operate
– meeting a wide range of professionals across the European dance field
– building visibility within a broader international context
The focus is on exploration, overview, and experiencing the dynamics of a larger festival ecosystem.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must:
– Be professionally active dance artists (choreographers, dancers, or
interdisciplinary movement-based artists)
– Be currently based in Region Västra Götaland
– Work within the field of contemporary dance and/or performance
– Demonstrate interest in international collaboration and artistic exchange
– Be available to travel during the relevant festival period
– Write a short report, include at least two photos send to Danscentrum Väst
and 1024-regionalt produktionshus för dans after concluded festival
What is Offered
Selected artists will receive:
– Festival accreditation / participation access
– Travel support (roundtrip transportation)
– Accommodation during the stay
– Per diem / local hospitality support
– Facilitation of professional networking opportunities
Purpose of Participation
The selected artists will represent the contemporary dance field of Region Västra Götaland and take part in a professional international exchange.
They will attend performances, participate in meetings and discussions, connect with local and international artists, and build relationships with presenters, programmers, and institutions.
The aim is to strengthen artistic dialogue and create sustainable international opportunities for artists from Västra Götaland.

Applications will be assessed based on:
– Artistic quality and professional practice
– Relevance of the opportunity to the applicant’s development
– Motivation and potential for international exchange
– Connection to and activity within Region Västra Götaland
