Bio:
TERESIA BJÖRK is one of our country’s most established choreographers and dance artists. For more than 35 years, she has created critically acclaimed performances in Sweden, Spain, Portugal, England, and the USA. She has also worked as a dancer and actress and has extensive experience in teaching, coaching, and collaborating with other artists. Her choreography is characterized by sensitivity, precision, and a courage to express strong emotions beyond words. Awareness of the senses and stage presence are of crucial importance. “Daring to find nakedness” is, for her, an invitation to experience the moment with all senses, to be true to oneself, and to allow oneself to be emotionally affected. An invitation to both the co-creating artists and the audience of the performance. Teresia Björk works with a personal and idiosyncratic style in a physically expressive dance tradition marked by meticulously developed choreography, craftsmanship, and dramaturgical sharpness. She draws influences from literature, music, and visual art – and also from everyday life with all its drama and existential experience. Her stage designs often rely on contrasts between darkness and light. They invite the viewer to rediscover the relationship between the everyday and the aesthetic. Artistically, she constantly challenges herself to take new steps and explore new forms of expression and themes, as well as new artistic constellations and collaborations.
Class description:
IN CLASS Since 2006, Teresia has been working with her own choreographic method, “Finding Tools,” which she also uses when leading workshops or giving classes. It has been highly appreciated by performing artists at the start of their careers, as well as by already established performers who want to advance in their development. It is a method where the dancer/actor/participant is the focus, being given various tools and tasks to gradually create through movement and other dynamic expressions. You can expect to initially receive a warm-up for the body and voice in the form of release-based movement material/sound, where you, together with the other dancers, engage with each other in different forms and with different expressions. You are encouraged to use your own personal knowledge and needs to find your own tools and paths under Teresia’s guidance. The method and workshop is for preparation for personal creation or preparation before a performance. The method works by building moment by moment depending on how many people are in the room, solos, duos, trios, etc are created. You can expect a workshop with high physical intensity with room for expression and individual artistry, combined with space for reflection. The workshop works just as well as daily training as preparation for performance or preparing for one owns choreographic work.
