The JS 550 and SX 550 feature a 530cc 2-stroke twin cylinder engine with a 75mm bore and 60mm stroke. The SX 550 produces 47 HP with reed valve induction and oil injection. This gasket seals the exhaust pipe connection preventing exhaust gas leaks. On 2-stroke engines proper exhaust sealing is critical because the exhaust system creates the back pressure needed for correct fuel scavenging. A leaking exhaust gasket disrupts this pressure balance causing lean running conditions that lead to overheating and piston damage. On personal watercraft the exhaust is water cooled and a failed gasket can allow water into the engine causing hydro lock.
