Shway Style Whacking Workshop with Mourad El Mrini

This is style and method created and developed by Shabba-Doo directly inspired by the original punking ,style, locking, soul dance, and more.

Mourad El Mrini is a multi-disciplinary artist. He studies Performing Arts at the University of Rennes and dances within the “Original Style” collective led by Kevin Mischel with whom he opens for rappers Médine and Blacko. A tireless archaeologist of the Soul and Funk universe, he studies Soul dance, Locking, Popping and Waacking with the pioneers of these movements, going to California to train with his mentors including Bruno Falcon “Pop’n’Taco (former personal coach of Michael Jackson) and Adolfo “Shabba-Doo” Quinones (Original Lockers, choreographer of Madonna, icon of the film Breakin’84).

He obtained his Dance Artist diploma at the prestigious “Performing Arts Center” in Los Angeles and became the only male representative in the world of “Shway Style” initiated by Shabba-Doo. Upon his return to France, Mourad opened workshops around this style, focusing his work on three dimensions: emotional, spiritual, and physical. Mourad created his company “FKL” with the choreographer Nicolas Beaunay as well as the piece FONK LEGACY. As part of this creation, he trained intensively in Tap Dance. With his company, he won the “coup de coeur” prize at the “House of Crew” 2018 choreographic competition in Paris.

He became Artistic Director and Choreographer of the famous funk group “Ameega”, the last Mohican of Boogie Funk with whom he performed in legendary trendy “Jazz & Funk” venues in France, such as the New Morning in Paris. He also dances for the Funk Nantais group “Tropical Night”. A Chaplinesque dancer, he pursued theater and comedy by playing in the plays “Portrait of Humanity” and “Hors les Murs”. He intervenes in the PEAC (Educational Pathways Artistic and Cultural) in schools, particularly in priority education areas.

On the cinema side, Mourad El Mrini shines in the film “Our Broken Souls” by Ananda Safo and is credited in “Break” by Marc Fouchard. A committed artist, Mourad represents the support collective “Liberons Mumia” in Allonnes (72) and implements actions to support his release.
